Robert J. Glotzbach, born to Liz and Joseph on Dec. 13, 1926, in Los Angeles, died on Aug. 16, 2015, in Santa Rosa.
Husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, life partner, appropriate sociologist, poet, renaissance man, re-modeler and meat-loaf chef extraordinaire, not to mention all around good guy and generous man, Bob received his degree in chemistry at U.C. Berkeley in 1950, and went on to work as an aerosol specialist at American Can Co. in San Francisco for 25 years. He and his wife Barbara lived in Los Altos from 1958 to 1985, and their four children grew up there.
After an early retirement, Bob received his masters in sociology at San Jose State, and went on to teach at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills. He moved to Santa Rosa in 1985 and continued to write, and was very involved in community-focused groups. In 1987 he met Gena Van Camp and they became life partners. Bob and Gena moved into the family Glen Ellen house and spent many happy years there before moving to Sonoma.
While in Glen Ellen, Bob was an active member of the community, serving many years on the board of the Glen Ellen Historical Society. He published a number of writings on the history of Glen Ellen, including a history of the Glen Ellen Fire Department, and his recently reprinted Childhood Memories of Glen Ellen.
Predeceased by first wife, Barbara; son, Steven; and sister, Louise Semlek, he leaves his children, Susan (Gary) Schinsing, Oceano, CA; David, San Jose, CA; and Bill (Julie),Centennial, CO. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lilly (Jack) Whalen, San Pablo CA; Simone Schinsing, Oceano, CA; and Justin Glotzbach, Nashville, TN; two nieces, two nephews, and one cousin. He also leaves his life partner, Gena and her four children, and many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
